While I undergo breast cancer treatment, my husband, Bob offered to be my "guest blogger." He shares how he has expanded his cooking skills. In case you haven’t figured it out, I married the sweetest, kindest, most genuine woman I have ever met. Thus, it should come as no surprise that when I got married, several of Marcia’s friends called to congratulate me and simultaneously subtly threaten my life should I do anything adverse to their dear friend. I found this endearing, and hoped my friends would feel the same about me. They didn’t. Instead, after meeting Marcia, it was the … [Read more...]
Rant of the Dietitian’s Husband
The Dietitian’s Husband shares his weight loss transformation and rants along the way. My husband, Bob, occasionally delights me by offering to be my GUEST BLOGGER. He shares what it is like being married to a registered dietitian nutritionist. (There are many misperceptions!). His articles are my most popular. Enjoy! So, I was on one of my very infrequent forays into social media and my attention was captured by a guy doing some pretty impressive exercises. He did handstands, pushups and handsprings. He was a mass of lean muscle and tendons. Then I learned he was over 60 years old! … [Read more...]
The Dietitian’s Husband Strikes Again, in the Kitchen!
It’s been about three years since I last hijacked my wife’s post so I felt that the time is right to tell you about my recent adventures in nutrition. As a quick review, I followed my wife’s advice and lost 35 pounds (slowly and fitfully). I have now kept it off for several years (I’ve lost count). I did it without giving anything up, including dessert. I recognize that I have an unfair advantage…a wonderful dietitian wife who is an incredible cook. However, she is so good to me that I started feeling guilty. I used to soothe that guilt by occasionally taking her places, including out to … [Read more...]
Return of the Dietitian’s Husband!
Welcome to the "Return of the Dietitian's Husband" (or, The Horror of the Holiday Bulge)! This article was written by Bob, my husband and guest blogger. Here is his first article, in case you missed it, "The Agony of the Diabetes Dietitian’s Husband". There it was, approximately ten pounds of malicious metal and glass. The creature stared at me, daring me, mocking me. Its bulbous eye both inviting and foreboding. "Go ahead, try me" it seemed to say. "You think I'm afraid?" I said aloud. "You think I won't do it?" Silence was the response. "I'll show you. You have no power over me!" I … [Read more...]
The Agony of the Diabetes Dietitian’s Husband
Bob, my husband and guest blogger, writes about the agony of the diabetes dietitian's husband. "You poor guy. It must be rough being married to a diabetes dietitian." Time after time I get condolences from my friends about my grim fate. Yes, I agree, it's rough. Just last night I had to suffer through pistachio crusted tilapia with a lime mayonnaise sauce, couscous and squash. "I bet you have to eat a lot of grass." "Of course" I reply, contemplating my recent salad of orzo, grape tomatoes, cucumber, parsley and a dressing that could only be described as heavenly. "I bet you have to … [Read more...]
