While attending a Diabetes Educators conference a few years ago, I learned that children have died because their symptoms were not recognized as diabetes, they were not diagnosed and treated, and they died. Knowing the symptoms of diabetes can save a life. I was shocked to hear this because I thought Type 1 Diabetes was always diagnosed since the symptoms are so severe. How to Prevent Complications from Unmanaged Diabetes
Twenty-eight years ago I lost my first husband, James, due to complications caused by unmanaged diabetes. I learned a lot from James and there are lessons for you too. I learned: 1. I couldn’t keep him alive or control him. Everyone is responsible for their own self care. 2. No two people with diabetes are alike. Can You Get Rid of Diabetes?
“Can I get rid of my diabetes?” There is an answer, and I'll explain. Here’s the lowdown: After being diagnosed with diabetes you can’t really get rid of it. There’s no cure. BUT a small percentage of people with Type 2 diabetes can return to having normal blood sugars, especially after metabolic/bariatric surgery or losing a lot of weight.
